The Role!
 
As a Brand Protector, the Director, Quality Assurance (QA) will create, implement and maintain a world class end-to-end quality assurance and food safety philosophy within Zoes Kitchen, by ensuring only high quality and safe food is served to Zoes Kitchen’s customers. The position requires an in-depth understanding of and proactive involvement in each step of the supply chain, together with the technical knowledge and critical thinking abilities to enhance the quality of the final product and to prevent or eliminate the potential for food safety issues. Also, to supervise the design, execution and accuracy of Zoes Kitchen’s nutritional and allergen databases.
 
Responsibilities
 
    Subject Matter Expert for all food safety and quality assurance and compliance initiatives. Inclusive of but not limited to:
 
  • Food Labeling Laws
  • Safe Food Handling Practices
  • Food safe work environments
  • Designs food safety evaluations to audit against Brand standards
  • Designs, develops, implements, controls and measures all food safety programs
  • Owns the supplier scorecard system, communicates areas of risk to key leadership team members, and develops strategies to minimize risk
  • Creates and manages product approval process for current and potential supplier/distributor partners
  • Partners with Culinary to incorporate food safety procedures for all recipes to ensure food safety compliance
  • Maintains nutrition and food allergen database and website to ensure all vendor and culinary information is current
  • Enhances and maintains the development and execution of the Zoes Kitchen food philosophy
  • Ensures team member food safety certifications are maintained and provides training when appropriate
  • Partners with the Learning & Development and Operation Services team to introduce food safety programs across all team member levels (Front of House, Back of House, Management)
  • Establishes industry leading product recall program
  • Manages third party food safety vendor
The Skills!
 
  • College degree with technical background in Food Science, Biology, or similar; or proven experience equal to the principal responsibilities
  • 5 years’ work experience in a Quality Assurance, Food Research & Development, Food Safety or Food Science field
  • Strong functional expertise and knowledge of HACCP, SSOPs, GMPs, and USDA, FDA and all other applicable State and Local health and food safety codes
  • Display a passion for food and a desire for long-term Quality and/or Food Safety career
  • Exceptional communication skills (verbal and written) with the ability to partner and influence in a fast-paced collaborative work environment
  • Proven track record in the ability to analyze data and clearly articulate results to stakeholders
  • Can identify problems related to food and possess a “critical eye”
  • Possess extraordinary organization skills and ability to prioritize projects
  • Can thrive in a fast-moving environment and can develop scalable strategies and solutions
  • Possess a strong understanding of Food Science principals and food preparation techniques
  • Strong computer with the ability to utilize Excel, Word, Outlook and other software necessary for data entry and reporting
