Job Description: 

Major Responsibilities:

- Trains and supervisors activities of quality control, supervisors, and other personnel, on all shifts in the following areas at the Processing Division:

a. Slaughter

b. Eviscerating and chilling

c. Deboning

d. Marination

e. Specialty (Cut-up)

f. Shipping

g. Grounds and facilities

 

- Ensures quality of products received and produced by (but not limited to):

a. Conformance to Customer specifications

b. Conformance to SFI specifications

c. Conformance to temperature requirements

d. Conformance to other requirements as necessary

 

- Assess yield performance by:

a. Assuring the accuracy of scales and scale sheets

b. Monitor net weights, package weights, etc

c. Perform wet yield studies twice per month

 

- Prepares and distributes daily and weekly quality control reports for management

- Monitors plant for compliance with USDA SPS, SSOP, and HACCP/Pathogen reductions regulations

- Manages the implementation of the SIS program or other FSIS programs in the plant

- Investigates and responds to customer inquiries and complaints as directed by the Corporate Quality Assurance Manager, Division Manager or Director, Technical Services

- Maintains quality control hold tag log and supervises the hold tag program

- Inspects facility for pest activity and works with pest control company on control and extermination

- Monitors, evaluates, and coordinates with sales, and plant management on products returned from customers

- Communicates useful information to plant supervisors

- Orders necessary supplies and materials, and coordinates with Corporate Quality Assurance Manager, Division Manager and Director, Technical Services in preparing the quality control budgets

- Provides leadership and encouragement in an atmosphere of safety consciousness as well as efficiency of production

- Performs other duties as required

Requirements

Position Requirements:

- B.S. Degree in Food Science, Poultry Science, or related field

- One year experience supervising quality control programs in a USDA inspected poultry slaughter facility

- Identifies with the values, philosophy, and mission of Sanderson Farms, Inc.

- Demonstrates ability to manage a Quality Control program

- Organizes tasks and performs duties effectively

- Demonstrates knowledge in the operation of machinery, and is aware of the abilities of other quality control personnel so that accurate quality control data can be collected

- Ability to communicate well and use tact and discretion in dealing with customers, USDA, and other groups
