Job Description: 

This position is responsible for Pipeline Foods quality control operations. The Regional Grain QA manager acts as the subject matter expert to ensure processes and procedures meet and exceed CGC and/or USDA standards, monitors and trains employees on standard operating procedures and communicates QA status to internal and external contacts.


• Develop, update and evaluate company-wide QA processes and tools

Develop QA reporting metrics and KPI dashboard reports

Create and implement inspection and testing criteria or procedures

Evaluate new and existing testing and sampling methodologies and technologies

Review statistical studies, technological advances or regulatory standards and trends to stay abreast of issues in the field of agricultural quality control

Review and update standard operating procedures and quality assurance reference materials

Coordinate the selection and implementation of quality control equipment, e.g. inspection gauges

Monitor performance of quality control systems to ensure effectiveness and efficiency

• Responsible for oversight and training of lab analysis in Northern tier elevator division

Perform grain evaluation and lab operations at Bowbells elevator

Travel to all Northern tier facilities quarterly to train facility staff

Train employees to follow standard operating procedures

Oversee employees, including managers, inspectors or lab workers engaged in testing activities

• Monitor third party labs

Insure consistent adherence to CGC and/or USDA standards

Review lab licensing and credentials

Conduct on-site inspection of labs annually or as needed

Evaluate dependability and reliability of labs to meet Pipeline Foods needs

Review Pipeline billing records for accuracy and competitive pricing

• Support Pipeline Foods teams

Update the Canadian merchandising team regarding facility quality

Work closely with Safety team to ensure safe facility operations

Communicate quality control information to all relevant organizational departments, outside vendors or contractors

Provide budgeting information for quality control operating budgets to management, the accounting department or outside vendors as needed

• Other duties as assigned


Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Excellent communication and writing skills to interact with all levels of business contacts, writing skills need to be thorough, complete and legible
  • Ability to grade all grains, oilseeds and legumes with minimal errors
  • Ability to perform QA that meets both CGC and USDA standards
  • Familiarity with operations and mechanical systems associated with a typical grain elevator
  • Ability to coach employees and direct the daily activities of one or two subordinates
  • Exhibit organizational, time management and planning skills
  • Must demonstrate mathematical skills to perform duties in an acceptable manner
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and internet-based applications
  • Demonstrated problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally using standard commercial means (airline travel, rental car)

Physical Requirements

  • Must be able to climb stairs, climb ladders, reach overhead, bend, crouch
  • Must be able to be on their feet 4-6 hours/day and lift up to 50 pounds occasionally
  • Hearing (with or without hearing devices) and vision (with or without correction) to read signage, written manuals, safety materials, identify colors, have awareness of safety standards and activities etc.
  • Ability to work in a dusty environment, including grain dust
  • Ability to work in an environment with extreme temperature variation


  • 5-10 years grain elevator quality control experience
  • 5-10 years grain inspection experience


  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent work experience
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
