Job Title: Quality Assurance Manager                  Department: Quality Assurance                                                 

Reports To: Director of Food Safety                      Location: Great Falls, Montana

This position is responsible for the coordination of all quality assurance programs designed to ensure the production of safe, high quality products consistent with CGI standards through providing leadership and direction. The position requires an experienced specialist with working knowledge of quality management systems, food safety, pulse processing equipment and trouble-shooting skills. The candidate should be an independent, motivated self-starter who values working in a team setting.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Prior pulse / bean processing required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization and equipment experts.
  • Strong focus and understanding of food safety and quality requirements
  • Knowledge of HACCP, FSMA, risk assessments and root cause analysis
  • Develop an expert knowledge of the production process and all associated equipment. Be able to analytically and systematically troubleshoot manufacturing issues and develop the team to be self-directed in the same activities.
  • Perform maintenance need inspections and work with managers and operations to ensure equipment is maintained to a satisfactory level.
  • Work with equipment customer service reps to keep employees updated on proper operation of equipment.
  • Provide training for operations staff on all processing equipment, GMP’s and food safety.
  • Develop and maintain an employee training manual
  • Ensure that procedures and work instructions are followed.
  • Communicate daily with all processing facilities for what is needed for daily processing. What adjustments are necessary for color sorter and cleaners per product and customer specification.
  • Develop color sorting programs for all sorters and Instruct daily as to settings
  • Develop and maintain a processing manual and quality log
  • Work in conjunction with processing operations and merchandising to oversee quality results daily
  • Provide guidance and support and/or accompanying FDA inspectors and for 3rd party auditors auditing the facility and preparation of necessary documents for review and any written response
  • Assess if what is being processed makes the standard for the customer.
  • Work with management to address and resolve customer complaints effectively
  • Conduct internal audits of procedures used in all areas of the plant and issuing a complete report with corrective actions to relevant managers and supervisors
  • Assist management in preparation for inbound quality needs for upcoming shipments.
  • Travel involved to facilities in Washington, Montana, North Dakota.  Heavy travel initially, to decrease to approximately 25% after 6 to 8 months.

Education and /or Experience:

  • S. in Food Science, Biology, Engineering or comparable field of study preferred
  • PCQI, HACCP & SQF Certification
  • Working knowledge of computers and software as utilized in the food safety / quality assurance environment
  • 5+ years experience in management / quality management preferred
