Position summary:

The Sanitation supervisor is responsible for monitoring and ensuring proper sanitation throughout the facility as well as recommending improvements in manufacturing methods and sanitation practices to management. This position oversees the development, implementation and maintenance of the sanitation programs and SOPs to meet company standards, Federal, State and local regulatory requirements.

Qualifications required:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.
  • Minimum of three successful years working in sanitation in the food industry.
  • Computer skills including MS Office (Excel, Word, and Email) required.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills

Qualifications desired:

  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)
  • Associates degree in related field

    • Knowledge of HACCP, GMPs, CIP, and other various sanitation methods
    • Strong supervisory skills with experience supporting and motivating a team
    • Excellent time management skills

Essential functions and responsibilities:

  • Consistent and dependable attendance.
  • Ability to work overtime, weekends and flexible schedules as business needs demand.
  • Will need to be able to work around food allergens: milk, soy, eggs, and tree nuts.
  • Must be able to work within a team environment, treat all with respect -- no fighting.
  • Must have the ability to stand a minimum of 6 hours without a break and a maximum of 12 hours with a break. There are NO sitting positions or jobs.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs consistently per departmental needs.
  • Must be able to wear/utilize personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to climb up and down ladders and traverse walkways.
  • Ability to work in confined spaces. (Spiral)
  • Maintain sanitation employee's attendance records
  • Develops operating policies and procedures as necessary.
  • Creates Master Sanitation Schedules for plant and warehouse facilities, interior/exterior. Ensures superior sanitation of production plant, equipment and surrounding areas at all times.
  • Participates in regular meetings with all levels of plant management to discuss quality and sanitation improvements.
  • Follows up on work orders with the appropriate associates to ensure expeditious performance of the requested work.
  • Manage the inventory and purchasing of sanitation supplies.
  • Create SSOP's for the equipment and plant structures as needed.
  • Prepare, train and supervise sanitation employees on proper sanitation and sanitizing.
  • Ensure cleaning tasks are competed adequately and on time.
  • Plans, manages and directs plant sanitation procedures, programs and regulatory requirements, ensuring all plant equipment is clean and safe for production.
  • Supervise the execution of the sanitation program and ensure adherence to all company and regulatory policies for food-safety, health & safety and environmental programs
  • Supervise sanitation personnel, train on sanitation procedures and ensure effectiveness of cleaning.
  • Administer progressive discipline per the company policy
  • Maintain planned staffing levels for your shift by participating in interviews and hiring of Sanitation team members.
  • Organize and coordinate cleaning activities for the equipment and facility that occurs daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annually, and annually
  • Direct team activities to ensure that cleaning functions are appropriately timed with Operational activities, and ensure that cleaning activities occur on time as per the Sanitation Schedule
  • Participate in self-assessments and checks to verify effectiveness of cleaning, and provide records and documentation
  • For sanitation problems and concerns, conduct all necessary follow-up to establish corrective actions and preventative measures
  • Work closely with Food Safety to ensure adherence to schedule and maintenance of forms, records, SSOP's and documentation to support the Food Safety Program
  • Assist with audits regarding sanitation and chemical use issues
  • Ensure the proper use of all Sanitation equipment
  • Ensure that sanitation chemicals are used and stored as required by the Sanitation Program

Physical demands and work environment:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the associate is required to climb, balance, kneel, reach, stand, walk, push, pull, lift, use hands to finger, grasp, or feel objects, talk or communicate, hear, and visually inspect areas to be cleaned.
  • The associate is frequently required to assist with unsanitary conditions.
  • Work environment: Heavy work exerting up to 50lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 20lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 20lbs. of force constantly to move objects. There is a considerable amount of flour dust while cleaning the lines.
  • Both inside and outside environmental conditions: Activities occur in coolers and freezers during shift. Exposure to cold and freezing temperatures in the coolers and freezers areas. Exposure to high heat while in the warehouse, especially during summer months.
  • Humidity: Exposure to humid conditions ranging from 70 to 92 percent.
  • Noise: There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.
  • Hazard: Includes a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals. The floor may be slippery due to the flour, detergent, oil, and water during the clean out operation. The water used for cleaning is very hot with some amount of steam production. There is frequent exposure to chemical compounds used for the cleaning of the facility. Contact with body fluids may happen during the cleaning of restrooms.
  • Oils: There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids
