Reports to: Director of Quality

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:  Include the following. Other duties may be assigned to meet business needs.

  • Analyzes evaluates and presents information concerning factors such as business situations, production capabilities, manufacturing problems, economic trends, and design and development of new products for consideration by other members of the management team.
  • Suggests and debates alternative methods and procedures in solving problems and meeting changing market opportunities.
  • Cooperates with other top management personnel in formulating and establishing company policies, operating procedures, and goals.
  • Develops initial and subsequent modifications of the product assurance program to delineate areas of responsibility, personnel requirements, and operational procedures within the program.
  • Evaluates contents of reports from product assurance program department heads and confers with top management personnel preparatory to formulating the fiscal budget for product assurance program.
  • Conducts management meetings with product assurance program department heads to establish, delineate, and review program organizational policies, to coordinate functions and operations between departments, and to establish responsibilities and procedures for attaining objectives.
  • Reviews technical problems and procedures of departments and recommends solutions to problems or changes in procedures.
  • Visits and confers with representatives of material and component vendors to obtain information related to supply quality, the capacity of vendors to meet orders, and vendor quality standards.
  • Confers with other Quality Leaders within Berner regarding the quality assurance of new products designed and manufactured products on market to rectify problems.
  • Responsibility and authority to oversee the development, implementation, review, and maintenance of the SQF System.
  • Responsible to ensure as the SQF Practitioner that all Pre-requisite programs, Food Safety Plans, Food Quality Plan is validated, verified, and implemented.
  • Reviews technical publications, articles, and abstracts to stay abreast of technical developments in the industry. Oversee the training of employees in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP’s), HACCP, sanitation, SOP’s, safety, SQF Systems requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation, implementation, and training of employees on Food Safety Guidelines.
  • Oversee and review all process documentation (production and quality).
  • Oversee the training of employees in Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP’s), HACCP, sanitation, SOP’s, safety, SQF 2000 Systems requirements.
  • Oversee the preparation, implementation, and training of employees on Food Safety Guidelines.
  • Oversee and review all process documentation (production and quality).
  • Maintain vendor/supplier certification programs, including raw material sampling and C of A’s on received goods.
  • Oversee the various analytical tests on products i.e. (viscosity, moisture, ph, vacuum checks, and shelf life status with records) are being performed.
  • Assist production to comply with the quality system requirements.
  • Ensure internal auditors are properly trained with certification status.
  • To oversee the internal audit system and corrective action criteria. Maintain and Implement all of the Quality Programs that ensure Berner Food and Beverage meets all compliances & regulatory requirements of Food Safety.

Supervisory Responsibilities                  

  • Manages at least two subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of 14 or more employees in the Quality Department.
  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these units.
  • Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.
  • Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field or 5-7 years’ experience related to industry/Quality Processes
  • SQE Certification preferable
  • Exceptional training skills with the ability to develop training material
  • Applicable PC skills
  • Statistical application and evaluation skills
  • Good communication skills, both writing and speaking.
